Overview

Ultrasound Village has been set up by a group of like minded clinicians passionate about ultrasound.

We are all emergency physicians who hold the Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU) and use ultrasound in our clinical practice for a very diverse range of indications on a daily basis.

We are also all heavily involved in ultrasound education. We run regular ultrasound courses and have taught ultrasound in many countries around the world. We also coordinate and supervise registrar ultrasound training and fellowship (DDU) training.

Our goal is to make ultrasound education available to all clinicians, whilst ensuring safety and quality (and fun) in the educational process.

The Team

Dr Adrian Goudie

Adrian is an emergency physician at Fremantle Hospital and is chair of the Ultrasound Subcommittee of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.

He began learning ultrasound and echocardiography whilst working at St Thomas' Hospital in London and completed his DDU in general ultrasound after returning to Australia. In addition to believing that ultrasound will become a ubiquitous tool for all clinicians, he actually finds the physics of ultrasound fascinating.

Dr James Rippey

James is an emergency physician at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women, and an Associate Professor with the University of Western Australia.

He began learning ultrasound at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in Liverpool, completing his DDU on return to Australia. He has been involved in ultrasound training in the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, and Australasia. As well as general clinical ultrasound and emergency echocardiography, the use of ultrasound in early pregnancy is a major interest. His love of ultrasound and his enthusiasm for teaching are a great attraction to our courses.

Prof Greg Sweetman

Greg is an emergency physician at Swan Districts Hospital and at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. He is a Professor at the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle.

He completed his DDU whilst in Perth. He is a leading medical educationalist and ensures the integrity of the educational material we provide. He shares James' vision of eventually integrating ultrasound education into undergraduate education. His experience and wisdom rounds the Ultrasound Village team off perfectly.

Others

We generally invite other experts to teach on our courses with us. These include specialists with ultrasound qualifications as well as sonographers who add years of scanning experience and teaching to the mix.
